100 Follower Contest

Let me say first, my excuse for seeming lax in the comment department of late is, wait for it, my computer. It is so slow that writing a comment is taking what seems like forever. I can boil the kettle, make the tea, wait for it to draw and pour it, before the comment window comes up. Once I type my comment and click post, I have time to go off scouring the fridge for chocolate or cake as I wait for the verification window to appear. I have washed a sink full of dishes while in the process of one comment. In some cases by the time I have gotten to the comment box I have forgotten the witty little ditty I planned to write and end up with boring lifeless “Good Post.” Geeez….I am suppose to be a writer; you would think I could come up with something better than that.

Moving right along, last week I was thrilled to discover I had 90 followers. Yes, 90!!!! Big grin on my face. Had my time finally come for a 100-follower contest? The following day, as I pondered the contest question, I checked my blog and grin was wiped off my face. I was back to 89 followers. Did I jinks myself? Is this a new trend? Who was it, I wondered  clicked the notorious un-follow button! I couldn’t tell, because my computer will not load visuals, pictures etc. I was in the dark…which is probably just as well because I might have stalked said lost follower in an effort to discover why they had abandoned me.

Today I am back to 90 followers again and even as I type have acquired my 91st follower.  I am now feeling confident enough  to introduce a 100-follower contest.

On Monday night I attended a talk given by Barbara Kingsolver in DunLaoghaire, Co. Dublin. I have a signed copy of “The Poisonwood Bible” and “The Lacuna” to give away. One will go to, fingers crossed, follower 100. The other will go to a follower who leaves a comment here and advertises this contest on their blog. Names will be drawn from a hat or maybe a bowl. Haven’t worked out the finer details yet. Contest ends August 4, 2010.  It is a short one, due to  fear I may become overly attached to these signed copies!!!

I would like to say a big thank you to all my followers. I really do appreciate your wonderful kind and supportive comments. Thank you for sticking with me.

Good post! Only joking, I mean poor you, that computer situation is dire. It's a wonder you have the patience to post at all. Godspeed on the path to 100 followers.

Lovely prize Ann and should I dare to be greedy as I just won Talli's book competition ?.
Congratulations on all your followers, that's pretty impressive.
I will be internet free for a few weeks so I will talk to you soon in the virtual world, good luck with your competition.

Hi Ann - what a lovely idea but can you bear to part with the signed copies?? It is a really big gesture, I don't know if I'd be so big-hearted! I will certainly throw my hat in the ring, and post a copy to my page! I am writing up a recipe on my blog but this might take precedence! I have been away from the blog for the past while as I have been cycling in the evenings it's been fine. Now it's rainy tonight, blogging weather!Hope to see you soon,
All the best, Catherine.

These books look so good that if I don't win I may just go buy my own. And I've never heard of the author or seen the books. Is it because you bought them in Ireland that I'm so intrigued? Yes enter me in your contest! I'm happy to say that I'm one of your long time followers and I've missed your comments so if money were no object I'd send you a new computer. Goodness, yours sounds terrible. Does it have a virus?

Ann, I'd follow you twice if I could. I'm posting this contest at the top of my blog + promoting it on Facebook. I want you to get to 100 followers!

Hi Ann, sorry to hear about the PC problems. Can't give any advice here except to say keep the fridge well stocked with chocolate. I've often found that chocolate works well in all stress related situations!

How generous of you to raffle off your signed copy. I don't know the author ...yet! (Fingers crossed.)

Aahh Kitty, thanks so much for your kind words and well wishes. Just as a side note, I think I hate PC's!

Hi Nicole, thanks for dropping by. Yes it is exciting. I can't believe I am only nine followers away from the big 100. I see you are even closer. Well done.

Mise, I have wine...wine and/or chocolate do wonders for one's patience.

Hey Brigid, are you away on holidays? I don't know, desiring books, can that really be considered greedy. I think not.

Hi Catherine, Yes, it will be hard to part with these treasures, that is why it is such a short contest. My resolve might wane if it was any longer.

Hi Karen, These are great books. You really should look out for them and all the others Barbara Kingsolver has written. After my contest that is. She is one interesting lady. I thoroughly enjoyed my evening at her talk.

Hi Theresa, you are such a sweetheart. Thank you for linking my contest on your blog and on your facebook page.

Hi Mary, Chocolate is great in stress related situations as you say. But tonight I found wine to be my stress reliever of choice. It was all I could find in the fridge!!! If you don't know Barbara Kingsolver...what a treat you have in store!

I'd love to hear Barbara Kingsolver speak!

By the way, Kitty asked us to pop over here and plug her entry! (I read your blog anyway, but I wasn't going to comment as I didn't know what to say.)

Hi! I think I'm your 93rd follower! I got here from Catherine's Deise blog. I'll post your contest on my blog- I'm devoting my day off today to working out how to do more things on it! (I think I have some sort of Blog-building learning impediment, but I, too, will get there with the help of chocolate!) Once I get a bit better at blogging maybe I'll try a contest as well, to get to the magic # 10, for me! Good Luck on reaching 100!

We are over here instructed by Old Kitty to come ask if she could win the prize you are giving away. I am really glad I came and found your blog. We are the 94th follower I think. So we will be back. Be sure Old Kitty wins that prize. LOL.
Have a great day.

What a dreadful state of affairs with your computer. But that is a genuine excuse. I've had slow computers in the past but nothing like what you describe.

I too came over from Old Kitty's blog. That is such a lovely giveaway. How kind of you. I've advertised it on my blog too.

Yay, Ann! :o) Congrats on nearly there and BOO! to computer problems. I have missed you, but now I know the reason and I'll send people over, if I can. (Because like Theresa, I'd follow you twice if I could!)

Hello - I just discovered your blog this morning but would love to follow it - Just say Ireland and you've got my interest. Six years ago My daughter and I landed in Shannon and as we got off the plane to walk across the tarmac, a man ahead of us knelt down to kiss the ground - he looked up and told us he'd been away too long. I asked how long he'd been away ..."Two weeks he answered." We loved our week in Ireland!

I'm follower #97. The odd thing is I could have sworn I was already a follower but somehow that has gone. Nothing intentional on my part. Well done on the followership anyway!

PC : is this a new thing? Do a check for viruses. Uninstall anything you don't need. After that, it might be you need more memory? Mind you, don't we all ...

Ann, I too am just over laptop malaise and I agree it's an awful dose! :) I now have a laptop which I dont have to power down everytime I leave it. The last one used to hang if unattended. Maybe it just never liked being left alone :)

Would have loved to have heard Ms Kingsolver last Monday, lucky you. Am reading The Lacuna at the moment

I came back to check. You're at 100 - woo hoo!

Congrats Ann on reaching 100. Is it a sign from God that you need a new pc? Even an iPad? Maybe you deserve to spoil yourself. Get one with tons of memory...

There, all better now... :o)

I have been a terrible commenter of late, but I'm using my illness as an excuse and hoping nobody will fall out with me!! Computers are very annoying at times; brilliant when they work, a pain in the arse when they don't!

Good luck on the contest!

There couldn't be a better prize than a Barbara Kingsolver book. I've read Poisonwood Bible, and I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it yet.
