I'm a Stylish Blogger, Yes I Am!

I have received this Stylyish Blogger Award from

Catherine at Dispatches of the Deise,
and Trisha of Words + Stuff

OhThank you, Thank you and Thank you again!
.

Image thanks to Goggle Images.

Big silly grin on face, feeling delighted with myself etc. etc.

The Rules of this award are:

1. Link to the person/persons who bestowed me with this lovely award.  Thank you ladies! Three great blogger friends.  If you don't follow them, well what are you waiting for!

2. Tell you seven things about myself.  hemmm, can I think of seven things, now there's a challenge.

3. Pass the award to three other people...Only three, now that is tough! Methinks this rule was made to be broken!

Seven Things About Myself:

1. I love history. Especially the life stories of Women in history.

2. On the history note, Anne Boleyn has intrigued me since my pre-teens. I think I have a copy of just about everything written about her.

3. I do get annoyed at interpretations of Anne and have been known to fire the offending book across the room. Case in Point "The Other Boleyn Girl" How totally historically incorrect! Reluctantly stepping off my soapbox.

4. I am the oldest in my family. Younger siblings may describe me as the bossiest. I beg to differ.

5. I love to knit. I made two little matinee coats for "Little Sir" (a post introducing Little Sir)

6. I also enjoy cooking. I have a major collection of cookbooks and yet I buy more. I love reading them.

7. Let's see can I think of an adventure.....When I was 19 I wanted to go to Dublin for the weekend. But I missed the train so I went outside the train station, stood at the side of the Dublin road, put my thumb out and hitched. A very nice young Scottish man in a blue car stopped and to my delight was heading to Dublin.

The time seemed to fly by as we chatted about this, that and everything.   Before I knew it we were driving down the main street of Naas.   He said he needed to stop for dinner and very generously asked if I would join him.  I hesitated wondering if this was against hitching protocol. My next thought was did I have enough money to pay for a meal in this posh hotel.  I need not have worried though because he treated me to a lovely three course dinner in the beautiful Victorian dining room of Lawlors Hotel. After dinner he ordered two glasses of Cointreau and set them alight. I was very impressed by his obvious sophistication. As we neared Dublin I thought he would drop me on O'Connell Bridge and head for his Holyhead ferry, but he drove me to the door of my friend's house in Glenageary. He declined the offered cup of tea afraid if he delayed he would miss the ferry.  Such a gentleman. His name did I hear you ask?  During the journey to Dublin I learned much about this Scotsman. The one of the little details I seemed to miss was his name!
Still kicking myself over that one.

So there you have it. Seven things you might or might not want to know about me.

And the award goes to:
1. Brigid @ sort of writing

2. Barbara @ From My Kitchen Table

3. Olive @ Write Olive

4. Niamh @ Words a Day

5. Theresa @ Substitute Teacher’s Saga

6. Old Kitty @ Ten lives and second chances

7. Len @ Conversations with Self

8. Mary @ Máire Rua Writes

9.  Mise @ Pretty Far West

10. Aine @ Áine Tierney

oh thankyou! I'm honored!

I had a similar offer of dinner while hitching, but from a much more dubious character!

Setting cointreux alight! I can recall being really impressed by that in a beer garden once upon a time...it might end up in my seven!

Would love to hear your take on Anne B! A blog post perhaps!?

Congratulations, you are an exceedlingly stylish blogger!

Ann - saw over on FB that you'd got the award! and I love the hitching story - it reminded me of my own hitching days (did we call it hitch-hiking? Don't think so!) off out to Newlands Cross on the 51 bus and then stand as close to the cross as possible and get the first cars to pass down. And of course in those pre-motorway days it was stopping at every town, I had many a meal in the Hazel Hotel (Monasterevin I think) and stopped in Lawlors too. And people were so kind, I never had a bad experience and the truckers were the best, up so high with great views and pit stops in truck caffs with massive dinners to fill this starving student nurse!
How do you do it with the massive follower increase? I seem stuck on 127 or 8, seem to have lost someone last week (hate to think they unfollowed me!) but this crusade sounds like fun, I tried to check it but it was closed to newcomers! too popular I guess. It looks like fun. Hope you're well and enjoying the baby, I am buzzing after the election campaign and the moratorium was hard to cope with! Now it's over and I have the count to look forward to tomorrow. I passed on being a Tally(wo)man as Jany and Sofia are here - the boys are all going with Jan to Waterford for the day. Will be adrenaline central!
All the best, Catherine

Congratulations on your stylish award and thank you for passing it on to me!

As you know, I'm a big history buff too.

Your story was great. I was waiting for him to be a cad, but he was just a nice guy. I'd be likely to miss the name as well.

You are indeed a Stylish blogger, Ann, thanks for the award, much appreciated.
Love your seven things,
only for the fact that I know you are alive, I was wondering where that hitch hiker story was going...I used to do it myself all the time, but now as a mother I would be horrified if my daughter did it..

How kind, Ann, thank you! And I'm glad you met such a nice Scotsman - I'm married to one myself, and they are every bit as gentlemanly and able to engage in happy banter as the Irish, if not more so.

Congratulations! I'm a knitter, too, I think it goes very well with writing...

What was it about Anne Boleyn? My favourite too!

Oh, and I must reluctantly confess to being a cookbook junkie too...

So many recipes, so little time!

Liza said...

Congratulations on your award! Great story about the trip to Dublin!

Rosalind Adam said...

A well deserved stylish award! I'm so disappointed by the ending of your point number 7 though. I thought you were going to say, 'and reader I married him' or something like that. What a shame to let such a catch slip away. I do hope he's reading this blog... or maybe not!

Congrats on the award and the awardees. You are very stylish indeed.

I enjoyed your post. I love your love affair with Anne Boleyn. I once stayed next to Hever Castle but unfortunately it was closed in winter. Just missed it by a day. I don't have to tell you its significance to Anne!

Congrats on the award and well deserved! (I guess I've gotten a bit behind!) all younger sibs say the eldest is bossy. What do they know?

And as for Anne Boleyn... did you read 'The Lady in the Tower' by Weir? What did you think?
